GPS stands for Global Positioning Satellite. Using a GPS receiver you can determine your position anywhere on the Earth. GPS receivers use radio signals from satellites orbiting the Earth. Handheld GPS devices supplied by Wayland Software require signals from four or more satellites to calculate position.
In the field a GPS receiver can be used to record crop boundaries of both part and whole fields, calculate crop area, soil sample and pinpoint disease areas in a crop. Each GPS receiver supplied by Wayland Software is provided with a set of easy to follow step-by-step instructions called Agri-Notes.
Data recorded in the field can be downloaded to a PC where, using PT-Mapper, electronic field maps can be produced. PT-Mapper allows you view and edit digital maps. Using layers, information can be added to record cropping information, treatment details and any other information that is useful to record on a map. Coloured maps can be printed from the software.
